This initiative is good for Ronald McDonald House families, local schools, and the environment. We can all do a little to make a big difference in our community!
What is a pop tab
Pop tabs are the little aluminum tabs from all kinds of cans: soda, some pet food, canned fruits, vegetables, and more.
How do pop tabs help the Ronald McDonald House?
Once the pop tabs are collected, they are taken to be recycled in exchange for dollars, which support the children and families we serve at our Houses. Since 1996, the RMHCCF Pop Tabs program has collected over 197 tons of pop tabs and raised over $210,000 to benefit the children and families staying at the two Ronald McDonald House locations in Orlando.
2015 - 2016 Pop Tabs School Contest
We invite local schools participate in the 2015-2016 School Pop Tab Recycling Contest, presented by WKMG- News 6 Getting Results and Central Florida McDonald’s®. If you and your students haven’t started saving your pop tabs already, now is the time to start!
On April 5, 2016, your school will need to bring the pop tabs that your students have collected throughout the year to one of the recycling centers on the list available at the link below.
Pop tabs from each school will be weighed and the number of pounds collected will be translated into dollars and donated to RMHCCF! Many of these families come from Central Florida - they could even be your neighbors and friends!
Only schools that are located in the following Central Florida counties will be eligible to participate in the contest: Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia
This year, we have made some changes to the prizes that will be distributed to the winners of the contest. The top three schools with the highest weigh-in values will receive the following:
- 1st Place Overall: $500 gift card for school supplies
- 2nd Place Overall: $250 gift card for school supplies
- 3rd Place Overall: $100 gift card for school supplies
And, the winning school from each county will receive a pop tabs trophy and bragging rights for a year!
On Earth Day - Friday, April 22, 2016 – WKMG will broadcast LIVE from one of the winning schools. All other winning schools will receive their prize sometime before the end of the school year.
Do I have to be associated with a school to collect pop tabs?
No. We have many workplaces, churches, and civic organizations who collect pop tabs. We’d love to have you and your group participate, too!
Here’s how easy it is to make a difference in the lives of the families who turn to the Ronald McDonald House program during a child’s medical crisis:
- Pop off those tabs from your beverage and soda cans.
- Save them in any container.
- Bring them to the RMH at 2201 Alden Rd. or the RMH at 1630 Kuhl Ave. in Orlando.
- From there, we will take the tabs to a recycling center to be weighed in exchange for funds.
